Kovalam, a sleepy beach town by the Arabian Sea, a few hours from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Literally it translates to groves of Coconut Trees; True to its name the sleepy town is a reminiscence of sights of endless coconut tree lines. A fishing village, that gained limelight during the early 70s, with Kovalam being a pit stop for all the European and Isareli travelers on the way to Ceylon as part of their Hippie Trails. The 17km crescent coastline of Kovalam has 3 beaches, each of which is unique with the view and is separated from each other by a rocky headland.
The Lighthouse beach, being on the southernmost got it’s name from the Vizhinjam Lighthouse which is on top of the Kurumkal hillock. Visit this one at night and you’d be charmed by the beams of the lighthouse hitting the waves on the beach. The Hawah beach or the Eve’s beach is a more active beach where you’ll see the town’s fishermen in action. This beach paradise is the place to be on moonlit nights to witness the serene aquarelle. Whereas the Samudra beach, is more a local hub sans tourist where fisherman carry out their day to day trade on this part of the beach. You do find a few luxury hospitality / resorts on this side of the beach too but with a calmer and steep beach.
One would find a lot of budget cottages and beach resorts on the shores of Kovalam’s Light House Beach, which is particulary touristy amongst all the three. There are ayurvedic therapy centres and resorts in case you are planning on a holiday infused with a bit of recuperation. Off late they do have a few water sports on the beach for you to also bring a sense of adventure to your holiday, so you don’t really have to confine yourself with just lazing on the beach.
Seen here is Haarika in a Neon Pink dress, with an easy breezy silhouette. Perfect pop of colour for a relaxed holiday and landscape, adding that extra excitement to the whole look is the colourful umbrella. Hope you enjoyed reading this post.
