Kochi – A Portugese Influence!

The Spice Route, Kochi, Portuguese colony

Kochi (Cochin) known as the Queen of Arabian Sea, first occupied by the Portuguese in 1503 was the most important and perhaps the most oldest Spice trading center. The earliest documented reference dates back to 15th century by a Chinese voyager named Ma Huan.

Until date the architectural influence from the Portuguese era on the city is very evident. The first day I arrived at Kochi was very sultry (about 30°C) and it took me a full day to get adjusted to the heat. So din’t really travel much except the areas around. We stayed at a lovely ‘home-stay’ on the Fort Kochi Road from where the beach was only 5 minutes away and also a few “touristy” shopping streets like Princess Street, Bastian Street, Berger Street and you must try out some street food on the Tower Road.

What I wore was this cotton dress from the brand ‘W‘, paired with a grey sporty sling from Adidas and for a pop of colour added this simple canvas ballet shoes from North Star. The idea is to always keep it simple, especially when the heat is unbearable 😉
