Trends: Kimono Capes

Red Maxi with a Floral Cape

Kimono is a Japanese garment, the word Kimono literally means a “thing to wear”. It refers to a full length robe with wide sleeves, that is wrapped around the body and is the outermost piece of the Japanese traditional ensemble. The modern take on this piece is more so comfortable and can be worn as part of our casual wear. You can pick from various lengths, from the ones that sweep the floor to the ones that end at your waist, it really depends on you like. I have one long cape and the other that ends at my waist, which I wear it with denim or a little black dress. But, here are a couple of pictures that show how to wear the Kimono Cape:

Casual Urban Street Style:

Tips to style it to perfection:

  • Looks better when layered with body hugging clothing
  • Pick ones in that are lighter and sheerer
  • For petite body type chose ones which show off your legs, so that you look taller
  • Kimono adds volume to your look so if you are on the curvier side, I suggest you pick a darker colour cape and belt it under your bust.
