After the Asus Zenfone (read review here), I was surprised this Christmas by Asus again, with their ZenPad 8.0, which is uber stylish and boasts of a HD IPS display. Touted as the world’s first tablet to integrate DTS Premium Sound technology, for an immersive entertainment experience, the DTS Sound Studio transforms stereo audio into virtual surround-sound. Apparently, the Z380KL design has been influenced by its similarity to the way a clutch bag is held. It features a fashionably embossed leather pattern, a 6mm slim bezel, clean lines, and rounded edges for a more comfortable grip. The device comes in three different colour choices: while I received the Leather Black, you have 2 more variants to choose from the Pearl White and Aurora Metallic.
Its 8 inch WXGA 1280×800 high-definition, IPS panel display with anti-fingerprint coating. A 16:10 Aspect Ratio means no unsightly black bars on the screen while I watch movies. Powered by Intel Atom x3-C3230 a 64-bit quad-core processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM will make the gaming experience all the more better.
What I love about the Tab:
- Premium design of the leather case for the Tab, makes it look very luxurious
- The 8 inch WXGA, 1280×800 high- definition IPS panel display is perfect to read books as the fonts stand out very clearly
- The OctaCore 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon 2GB RAM, now I can run multiple apps and switch between Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and various other apps/ social media platforms without an apparent lag.
- 4G compatible for all my internet surfing on the go.
- The 16 GB internal memory, that is expandable to an additional of 64GB, this means I can store all my favourite band’s/musicians discography in the tab. Google is offering a of 100GB additional space for all the Asus device users for about 2 years.
- The Audio Cover with DTS HD 5.1 Surround Sound, turns the tab into a portable entertainment center. My friends and I watched a movie on it on our terrace. We were seated at a distance of about 4 ft and yet we could hear the audio clearly. It also didn’t heat up throughout the 120 mins of the movie.
- My husband was gaming on the tab, and I didn’t notice any apparent lags all through out 1 hour 30 mins.
Below is a Video supporting my claim above w.r.t to the Video and the Audio Quality –
What I felt could have been better:
- The front Camera is too low a config, ‘coz mostly tabs are used for video calling and the front camera is the most used one than the rear camera.
- The Back cover is too difficult to open, so I haven’t really changed it from the Audio cover I received to the normal panel.
- I wish the Audio cover could be a multi utilitarian one, where I could sync the same with other devices of mine. Also, After 2 hours of playing music continuously, the audio cover / speaker heats up.
The Asus Zenpad 8.0 Z380KL is a good tab in the price range of INR 14,999 without the audio cover (INR 17,999 along with the audio cover). I like it for I have turned it to a music station and also as an eBook reader. The Zen UI is Based on Android 5.0 Lollipop (I’m hoping Marshmallow would also come to the device soon enough) and has enough tools on the software front to deliver stutter-less performance on the whole without major lags. Have you tried the Asus ZenPad 8.0 Z380KL yet? If so then do leave me your comments here, if not then do check out its configurations at the nearest outlet. Hey! I was kinda scared about removing the cover too but used a card to pry it open ( a useless one which belonged to a supermarket’s membership) so don’t worry. Once you open it, its easy to slip the audio cover in and and the audio cover opens in the same way so no matter what you do, they wont get damaged when you try to take them out ( there’s a little groove towards to bottom where you can insert a card, ruler or any hard object to pry it open) so its fine! Telling you from my own experience 🙂

Seems really cool, but I’m really in love with my current tablet, maybe in the future I’d get one like this, because it really looks amazing!!
thanks for this review. I’ve been planning to buy a tablet since Christmas, I was a bit disappointed to the camera quality though because asus zenfones has good cameras.
how much does it cost by the way? I was sold out by the audio cover.. it’s so cool!
The cost is stated above in Indian Rupees 🙂 Thank you !
I have another asus tablet and it’s working well, this zenpad looks more stylish with great features and the price is affordable
Been hearing a lot of good things about Asus! I’m actually planning to get the Zenfone Selfie as a secondary phone because my iPhone 6 seems to act up with Instagram sometimes.
